The Division of Engineering and Science is being restructured into six
schools, effective from 1 July 2000. The School of Applied Science is to
be a large entity within the Division comprising the Departments of
Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Medical Imaging and the Science &
Mathematics Education Centre. The School conducts three year courses
leading to a Bachelor of Science degree and offers master's and doctoral
programs. The Division prides itself on the applied nature of its
undergraduate courses so that its graduates are immediately employable.
All postgraduate programs can be taken on a part-time basis.
Applicants will have an outstanding academic record, possess an earned
doctorate in statistics and an excellent publication record at
International level. They will take a leading role in the conduct of
research. They must demonstrate research project leadership and
management and show evidence of securing competitive research grants
from government and industrial consultancy contracts.
The Statistics Group within the Department has research interests in the
areas of Time Series, Stochastic Processes, Statistical Process Control,
Statistical Modelling and Spatial Statistics. Further, a record of
achievement in graduate student supervision is essential. In addition,
the appointee is expected to establish a viable statistical consultancy
centre to serve the university community as well as industry. Contact
