RICHARD VERRALL (City University, London)
Risk estimation in general insurance using MCMC methods
This talk will consider areas where MCMC methods can be useful in
insurance. Two important aspects of premium rating are the estimation
of risk by postcode area and the analysis of individual claims data.
MCMC methods can usefully supplement traditional
actuarial techniques in these areas.
DAVID HAND (Imperial College, London)
Statistics in retail banking
Application of actuarial methods in insurance, and stochastic models in
the financial markets are commonplace. In contrast, the application of
statistical methods in retail banking is in its infancy. Possible reasons for
this curious state of affairs are suggested and illustrations given of some
of the challenging questions requiring answers.
