I agree with the technical points raised so far. Can I add that the 'Find'
facility is less than useful. Also, it does seem odd that I was refused the
password to the Access tables even after our return had been submitted and
accepted.
With regard to modular programmes, our Combined Honours programme currently
has some 850 combinations. As Tony suggested, we wish to continue with a
separate UCAS code for each of these, not simply for marketing but for
monitoring and managing the admissions process. The programme is designed
to allow students to shift the emphasis of their programme over the three
years. Term dates are common throughout the programme.
Our approach from the outset has been based on students being registered at
course level onto the programme and not the individual combination. The
programme is therefore returned to SLC as BA/BSc Combined Honours. We do
get a small stream of calls from LEAs/SLC where a student has used the UCAS
code for their particular combination, but it does seem a price worth
paying. It would seem during a recent call from SLC that others are taking
a similar approach.
Apart from the workload issues, a major concern was that students' choice
should not be compromised by any current or future regulations limiting the
number of changes of programme students can make without losing entitlement
to support.
