The Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR) is holding
their 2nd International Conference on 27th - 29th June 2007 entitled
Extended and Extending Families
http://www.crfr.ac.uk/events/intconf2007/conf2007index.html
Families take many different forms, and these are reflected in changing
expectations of family life. This conference provides an opportunity to
explore changing expectations of personal life through a consideration of
the ways in which families are extending and extended, across generations,
households, lifecourse and relationships
Abstracts and workshop proposals are invited which address the conference
themes:
Extended families: families across households, living apart together, beyond
parent-child relationships, adoption and fostering
Beyond kinship: civil partnerships, cohabitation, families of choice, friendship
Examining transitions; family breakdown, new families, changing families
Theorising extended and extending families . Challenges for law, policy and
practice
New reproductive technologies
International inequalities in families across the lifecourse
Abstracts
Abstracts should be 250 words long and submitted via our online abstract
form.. Abstracts should identify the focus of the paper, the questions it
will answer and the evidence or data on which it will draw. Abstracts will
be chosen for the conference and notified as outlined in the timetable
below. Presenters will be expected to provide copies of their papers in
advance of the conference to be included in a CD for those attending.
Workshop proposals
Workshops should be closely related to the conference themes, and allow more
in-depth discussion of issues. The proposal should clearly indicate the
topic to be explored, and how discussion will be facilitated. Workshops
drawing on policy and practice expertise, and opening up dialogue across the
research, policy, practice divide are particularly encouraged. Workshops
should provide a contrast to paper presentation sessions through a more
discursive approach to the subject matter and thought should be given to
including the participants' expertise. Workshop proposals should be
submitted via our online workshop submission form. A timetable for
submission and notification is outlined below.
Practicalities
All those whose workshop proposals or abstracts are accepted are expected to
book a place at the conference and pay the delegate fee. (There are a few
subsidised places available - please contact us for details). Co-presenters
are also required to register and pay the fee. All paper presentations will
have access to PowerPoint. Workshops should specify resources required -
