University Lectureship in Engineering Design

The University of Cambridge wish to appoint a University Lecturer in Engineering Design who has a proven or promising research record and who will contribute to teaching in the area of engineering design. The primary research requirement will be to develop a record of world-class research in some aspect of engineering design, commensurate with the Department of Engineering's longstanding international reputation in this area. Research topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to, healthcare design, inclusive design, knowledge management, process management, change management, computational design, design practice and design management. Candidates should have a wide knowledge of engineering design, both in the context of academic research and industry practice.
The successful candidate will be assigned to Division C of the Department (Mechanics, Materials and Design). The role mainly concerns research and teaching, and research activity is expected to account for 60% whereas teaching and administration is expected to account for 40% of the activities of the post-holder. There will inevitably be some administrative duties, but every effort is made to keep these to a minimum. For teaching, responsibilities will include contributing to undergraduate courses, supervising undergraduate projects, examining and supervising post-graduate students.
The successful candidate will take up the appointment no later than 1 September 2013 and will be based in Central Cambridge. The appointment will be for a probationary period of five years and, subject to satisfactory performance, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The current pensionable scale of stipends is in the range of £37,382 - £47,314 per annum.

In addition please include a brief statement (no more than two A4 pages) of professional, teaching and/or research experience and describe your future research plans.
The interviewing panel will meet soon after the closing date in order to produce a short-list; references may be solicited. Short-listed candidates will be invited to visit the Department, give a short seminar/lecture and attend a formal interview. This process will take place on 20 and 21 May 2013.
