Thought I'd mention that I've recently learned that the URL
shortener
http://bit.ly/
offers something similar (and it has become increasingly popular
due to the use of the Web via mobile phones, and Twitter). In
this case, one simply copies and pastes the bit.ly link and adds
the + symbol to the end of the URL. (Bit.ly URLs always contain
only letters and numbers after the single slash, so if there are
any other characters, such as question marks, in that part of the
link, remove them and anything after them before adding the +
sign.) For example,
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/highlands_and_islands/8352127.stm
is a recent BBC piece on the Lewis Chessmen. The URL
http://bit.ly/2AAILS
will take one directly to that page. To see the full URL before
going to the page, use "http://bit.ly/2AAILS+" (and be sure to
include the + as it may not appear as part of the link).
