GWYNEDD ARCHAEOLOGICAL TRUST

Outreach and Education Archaeologist



Salary: £16.941 - £28,270 (pro rata)

Spinal point: 18-34

Term of appointment: One year contract initially



Purpose: To develop the outreach and education work of the Trust

Responsible to: Head of Heritage Management

Location: Gwynedd Archaeological Trust Offices, Bangor, Gwynedd



Closing Date: Friday 16th April 

Interview Date: Wednesday 28th April



Job description

This new part time post has been created to develop the outreach and education work of the Trust.  We are looking for someone with initiative and drive to develop and implement an innovative programme that will engage with wider and more diverse communities.  The post is likely to involve public meetings and events, school liaison and outreach, training sessions, fieldwork and developing new publicity material.



You must be a fluent Welsh speaker, confident in both spoken and written Welsh.  You will have been involved in at least one substantive and successful outreach, educational or community project, and have experience of fieldwork and working with amateurs and volunteers.



This part-time post is offered as one-year contract and is based in the Trust’s office in Bangor.  The successful applicant will be expected to work a minimum of 22.5 hours per week within the Trust’s flexi-time policy. There is a possibility that this post may be extended beyond the duration of the contract currently being offered.



Background

Heritage Management team is responsible for curatorial archaeology in north-west Wales.  It comprises a team of archaeologists working to maintain the Historic Environment Record (HER), undertaking Development Control work and  general curatorial work, including agri-environmental schemes.  The Outreach and Education post-holder would work closely with all members of the team, and with other members of Gwynedd Archaeological Trust as opportunities arose.

Applications should be made by CV and covering letter.  Gwynedd Archaeological Trust does not use a standard application form.



Applicants invited to interview will be asked to make a short presentation in Welsh, on an archaeological site of particular interest to them, aimed at year 4 school children.
