Dear Eleanor,
Thanks - I enjoyed that, the more since I don't know Crimp's work. By
the way I see that in my excitement with this dadaist car I misspelt its
name: Citreon XSARA. I don't know which Other Languages Dept that
belongs to but the voice-over definitely sounded like 'Tzara', at least
in the way I've always imagined the name pronounced. Sorry if that
spoils your nice idea that it's an Hungarian tribute to Tamla Motown, or
rather a SIMULTANEOUS tribute to Tamla and Tzara!
'Language as raw material, not meaning ...' Strange, isn't it, that some
people get so upset if they can't see Meaning in a poem whereas they
quite readily accept, or perhaps don't even realise they're getting,
'language as raw material' from adverts, papers, TV, anywhere you look,
any time of day.
Best, Alan
