final CFP - Queer kinship beyond the ‘Western gaze’ (proposed session to the II European Geographies of Sexualities Conference, Lisbon, 5 a 7 September) Convened by: Joanna Mizielińska (Institute of Psychology, Polish Academy of Sciences) Agata Stasińska (Institute of Psychology, Polish Academy of Sciences & Institute of Applied Social Sciences, University of Warsaw) Studies of non-heterosexual kinship in modern societies are well established in the Anglo-American ‘West’, dating back to such ‘classical’ text as ‘Mother Camp’ (Newton, 1960s) and especially Kath Weston’s ‘Families We Choose’ from the mid-1990s. The once original body of work has now became ‘canonical’ and mandatory point of reference for subsequent researchers. Canonization, however, presents us with the obvious perils of hegemonization and domination of theories that perhaps do not necessarily fit into the non-Western social and cultural realties.
