A Private discussion list is used for 2-way discussions (e.g funded project to collaborate with specific partners/stakeholders) This type of list requires some privacy controls (managed subscriptions, private archives, not advertised on JiscMail website) Note - list description not set to HTML as standard, - this has been done to assist staff Key Features of Private Discussion List - List owner(s) approve (& add) all subscriptions (Subscription= By_Owner, confirm)
A subscriber can request to join the list by: - Subscribe/Unsubscribe Request Form
- Sending request to List Owners: listname-request@jiscmail.ac.uk
- Sending request to listname-subscribe-request@jiscmail.ac.uk
- Sending email to listserv@jiscmail.ac.uk with message SUBSCRIBE listname
In some cases subscriber needs to respond to a confirmation message. - Alternatively the subscription setting could be (Subscription= Closed)
- - List Owner(s) must add ALL subscriptions
- - And Subscribers CANNOT use options 1, 3 or 4 to subscribe/request to join
- JISCMail Helpline CANNOT add people to this list.
- Subscribers can post to the list & reply to messages on the list (Send= Private)
- The list archives are PRIVATE and can only be viewed by subscribers of the list.
- Only list owner(s) can view subscribers emails (Review= Owner) .
- The list is NOT advertised on the JiscMail website (Confidential= Yes)
