The Find Lists section of the homepage
provides four quick methods of navigating to a list or
group of lists:
- by list name *
- alphabetical indexes
- category pages
- keyword search
NOTE: These features
all use Javascript and require a compatible/enabled browser.
For users without such a browser, links are provided above
each of the four search methods to the appropriate non-Javascript
page.
* The by list name method is for those
who know the name of the list they want to go to. Typing
in a list name (not case sensitive) will take you to the
list's homepage. If the list doesn't have a homepage, though
the vast majority of JISCmail lists do, you will get an error
page and will need to hit your browser's back button and
try a different list.
SEARCH FOR LISTS
The Search for Lists feature allows you to
search for specific keywords in the list name, title and
description of public lists.
The Search Interface:
Keyword(s)
Type in one or more words, separated by spaces,
that you wish to search by.
Match phrase
If checked, treats multiple words in the criteria
as a phrase.
If unchecked [DEFAULT], separates multiple words into keywords and returns
results only where ALL keywords are found.
Match whole words
If checked [DEFAULT], only whole words are
matched.
If unchecked, both whole words and partial words are matched.
Go
Click on this button to start the search.
Notes:
Results
Display
Results are displayed
showing the Listname, in alphabetical order, and the
list Description. The Listname is hyperlinked to the
list's archive homepage, if available, otherwise an
email link to listname-request@jiscmail.ac.uk
is provided to enable you to get in contact with the
owner.
Search
Limit
The maximum number of
lists a search will return is limited to 100, for the
purposes of performance and practicality (max. of about
50kb HTML download). If a search produces a larger
number of results you should refine your criteria.
SEARCH WEB
The Search Web feature allows you to
search for specific keywords on the JISCmail web pages.
The Search Interface:
Search Web
Type in one or more words, separated by spaces,
that you wish to search by.
Match phrase
If checked, treats multiple words in the criteria
as a phrase.
If unchecked [DEFAULT], separates multiple words and returns
results only where ALL words are found.
Match whole words
If checked [DEFAULT], only whole words are
matched.
If unchecked, both whole words and partial words are matched.
Go
Click on this button to start the search.
NOTE: Some pages on the JISCmail
web are not searched, if it is considered unnecessary.
For example, the category and A-Z pages are omitted since
the Search for Lists method already covers information contained
on those pages.
