LISTSERV 15.0/15.5 Publicity for Subscribers

We upgraded LISTSERV from 14.5 to 15.0 on the 19th July 2008. On the 14th December 2008, we performed a minor upgrade to 15.5. The information on this webpage is relevant for both 15.0 and 15.5. Further information on the changes in LISTSERV 15.5 can be found here: http://www.JISCMail.ac.uk/help/using/listserv155.htm

LISTSERV 15.0 provides a new modern and easily navigable web interface. The list homepage (http://www.JISCMail.ac.uk/LISTNAME) provides access to any previous archives, list options and access to the JISCMail tools.

List Homepage

From the list homepage you can access your preferences on the top right. There are now 3 modes you choose depending on your level experience. They are tutorial, basic and expert.

Tutorial Mode displays additional text on each page to guide you through any options. This is the default option and is ideal if you are a beginner on JISCMail or an occasional user.

Basic Mode displays only the most common options but no tutorial text is shown. This mode is suitable for frequent JISCMail users who are not experts or do not use the advanced features.

Expert Mode displays advanced options that are not available in basic mode. This is mainly for expert users on JISCMail or those requiring to use the advanced features.

From the Preferences page you can also change which page you will start with when you log into the web interface. The default is the list homepage but you can choose subscribers corner and if you are a list owner or moderator, you can select to start on the list dashboard or the list moderation.

If you are away from your normal environment or share a computer, you can set the cookie to expire after minutes, hours or days.

On the Archive Preferences tab you can now set how you would like the archives to appear when you view them. In version 14.5 the list owner chose how you would view the archives but now you have the freedom to choose.

  • Sorting – The default option is to sort by topic, chronologically. You can also choose to sort by author or by date with a secondary option of most recent first.
  • Table of Contents – The default option is not to have a table of contents but should you choose to set this to yes, it allows you to see the subject and the number of messages per subject when you view a month/week.
  • Default View – The default view for the archives is HTML but if you wish you can choose Text Part which is plain text.

Tools Dashboard in the JISCMail Tools menu provides you with information such as how many subscribers there are on that list, how many files are in the files area, how many surveys and how many subscribers are in the discussion room. There is also a box to display the last 5 posts on that list.
