EMAIL ADDRESSES

It is important to understand how LISTSERV® uses email addresses:

When you subscribe to a list you subscribe with a specific email address. When you send a message to that list, LISTSERV will check the 'From' address of your email to make sure that it matches one subscribed to the list. If not your email may be rejected.

Email addresses are also used when you log onto the LISTSERV web interface (see also Passwords). For example, if you go into Subscriber's Corner to manage your list subscriptions and you log in with the address j.bloggs@somewhere.com you will only be able to see lists that you are subscribed to with that address. You won't be able to see lists where you are subscribed as joe.bloggs@somewhere.com.

Because LISTSERV uses your email address for authentication in these ways, it is important that if your email address is going to change then you make a note to change your list subscriptions and passwords as well (see Passwords). You can ask your list owner to do this for you, send a command via email, or contact the Helpline.
