Group Criteria

Criteria for a Group

To ensure the unique UK HE and FE focus to the lists, high quality of discussions and relevance to research/teaching, lists are vetted and reviewed. The main criteria for establishing a new list and continuing to support it are as follows:

  • The group should benefit UK academia in support of education and research.
  • JISCMail groups should be directly related to research or teaching within the UK HE, FE or Research community or in direct support of these activities.
  • The principal list owner should be employed by a UK higher or further education institution or research council or be eligible to receive JISC services e.g. Adult Community Learning (ACL).
  • There should be a significant percentage (>25%) of list members from UK HE, FE and Research Councils.
  • JISCMail does not establish lists for undergraduate students, nor does it host lists for single institutions.
  • Acceptance of new lists is dependent upon capacity being available on the JISCMail Service.

This policy is reviewed periodically.

Group not meeting criteria

If your list does not meet the above criteria for JISCMail, we may be able to host it on our low-cost Mailtalk service.
