Dear colleagues,
As some of the members of this list will no doubt be aware, the Digital
Classicist and the AHRC ICT Methods Network are running a
workshop/workgroup in London this month on the subject of *Open Source
Critical Editions*. The aim of this meeting is to discuss academic,
administrative, and technical issues surrounding the topic of the
digital publication and processing of critical texts, with special
reference to the Greek and Latin corpus.
The meeting itself will be held in King's College London on Friday 22nd
September 2006. We hope however that the discussion will take place over
a longer timescale and a wider area. The agenda, draft programme,
participants list, and the text of positioning papers will be made
available on the Digital classicist Wiki in advance of the workshop (use
the xwiki address with the url ending with folders "/Main/osce" to find
the private space). Discussion and conclusions will be written up and
published, with key discussions recorded and podcast as soon after the
event as is feasible. We hope that dialogue re key agenda points will
take place on the Digital classicist list before as well as after the
workshop. Any points raised before the day may be addressed during open
discussion at the seminar itself.
I would like to encourage colleagues on this list to visit the OSCE area
on the DC Wiki, read the positioning papers and follow the discussions
as they proceed. We are happy to feature additional positioning papers
or comments from interested participants. The issues under discussion
are of vital importance to the entire Digital classicist community, and
the dialogue should extend far beyond London. Questions may be raised on
the mailing list, posted in the blog, or added to the Wiki for wider
debate. This is a conversation that has not come out of nowhere and will
not be completed or settled on this single occasion. The wider
participation at this stage, the better.
I look forward to discussing this with you all.
Regards,
