POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP AVAILABLE, NIDCD, NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH.

The Language Section of the National Institute on Deafness and Other
Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health is seeking
applications for a post-doctoral fellowship, to begin in the Spring
of 2001. The laboratory's research focuses on the functional
neuroanatomy of brain-language relationships in normal subjects and
in patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders affecting
voice, speech, and language. We combine PET, fMRI, and ERP methods to
investigate the functional integration of brain regions subserving
language and movement and investigate how this integration may be
disrupted by conditions such as aphasia, deafness, dysfluency, and
neurodegenrative disorders such as Parkinson's disease. We apply
these same methods to investigate the pharmacological, surgical, and
behavioral treatments for these disorders. Applicants should hold an
MD or a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline such as neuroscience,
cognitive psychology, or psycholinguistics. Experience in
neuroimaging (PET, fMRI) or EEG methods is desirable as is an
interest in neural plasticity and recovery of language function in
post-stroke aphasia. Experience with computers (particularly Unix
systems, C/C++, and Matlab), mathematics, statistics, biomedical
engineering, or related disciplines is also desirable. Salary is
commensurate with education and experience. A minimum commitment of
two years is required. Further information can be obtained from:
